Amenities in package deals and wedding hampers
A package gives you a reason to charge more than the room rate, and an amenity is often the cheapest way to make the package feel complete.
What a package is for
A package bundles a room with something the guest values: a spa session, a dinner, a celebration. The amenity is the visible proof that the package is special. A couples package that includes a bath set in a pretty box feels different from one that is only a room and breakfast.
The amenity should also be photographable. Many guests share their package on social media, and a tidy tray or box is more likely to appear than a plain towel and a leaflet.
Pick amenities that fit the theme
- Romance: a matched bath set and slippers.
- Wellness: body lotion, a calm scent and an eye mask.
- Family: small bath items for children and a simple activity.
- Celebration: a keepsake box with a card.
Browse amenity kits and gifting for set structures you can adapt.
Match the box and card style to the occasion. A calm wellness package suits muted colours and plain paper; a celebration suits warmer tones and a ribbon. Keep the same base items and change only the dressing, which keeps stock simple.
Cost the package properly
List every part: room, food, treatment, amenity, packaging, labour. Illustrative example: if the package price is set, work out how much of it remains after each cost, then check that the amenity is a small share. Avoid giving a discount on the room and also adding a costly gift, as the margin can disappear.
Set a ceiling on amenity cost within each package, for example a fixed share of the package price. Choose items to fit that ceiling, not the reverse.
Wedding hampers
Hampers for wedding guests are given by the couple or the family, often to out-of-town guests. The hotel can take the whole task: collect names, pack hampers, deliver to rooms. Offer two or three fixed options, each with a price per hamper, and a minimum number. Include a printed card with the couple's names and date.
Request a sample from the supplier so the family can approve before the order.
Ask the family for the guest list in good time, with names, arrival dates and any dietary needs or allergies. Confirm who pays for late additions. Keep a master sheet and share it with housekeeping.
Photograph the first finished hamper and send it to the family for approval. A quick yes saves hours of rework later, and families appreciate being included.
Assembly and timing
Work backwards from arrival. Count the hampers, order the contents with a buffer, assemble the day before, and store in a cool room. Label with room numbers or guest names. Place in rooms before check-in. Keep ten per cent spare for last-minute guests.
Where hampers are delivered across several rooms, a runner sheet with room numbers, guest names and hamper type avoids confusion. Tick off each delivery and report any room that is not ready.
Avoid common traps
Offering too many options. Committing to a gift before stock is confirmed. Using a bulky item that cannot be carried home easily. Writing promises on a brochure that housekeeping cannot deliver. Simple, repeatable packages are easier to run well.
Think about allergies and sensitivities. If a hamper includes scented products or food, add an ingredient card and an unscented alternative on request. A tiny note such as "ask us if you prefer something different" shows care.
Also decide in advance what happens if a guest cancels: who keeps the hamper, and can it be reused for another booking? A clear rule avoids waste and awkward conversations.
Make it repeatable
Write a one-page specification for each package: contents, supplier, packaging, who assembles, who delivers. This lets a new team member run it without guessing. For packs with your own labels, see private label, and ask for samples to confirm the look before committing.
Finally, ask for feedback from the couple or the booker after the event. One question is enough: what would you change? Their answer is the start of next season's improvement.
Questions on this topic
Do hampers need to match the room amenities?
It helps. Using the same scent and style makes the stay feel coherent.
How many spare hampers should we make?
About ten per cent extra covers late arrivals and damage.
Can hampers be customised for the couple?
Often through a printed card or label. Agree artwork and quantities with your supplier early.
